5 Essential Steps for a New Pilates Instructor

11/09/2023 · In: Daily Life, Yoga

Becoming a Pilates instructor is the best way to turn your passion for yoga and Pilates into a business. It is a rewarding journey, as well, as it gives you the opportunity to share your hobby with others. However, do not assume that your work stops when you pass your certification after the Pilates instructor training. On the contrary, you are just about to get started!

There are many Pilates classes around, so you need to prepare well to turn yours into a success. First of all, as mentioned, becoming a Pilates instructor can make a great deal of difference, as not every class is taught by a certified teacher. But, there’s more to a Pilates business than meets the eye!

Steps for a Pilates Instructor #pilatesinstructor

1. Must-Have: Squat proof leggings

There is no denying that Pilates requires a lot of bending, flexing, and squatting. The last thing you want is to expose your underwear. As such, squat proof leggings are a must-have. Some of the brands you want to focus on are 90 Degree by Reflex, Colorfulkoala, and Joyspels. These have the advantage of coming in a range of fun colors and all sizes, including extra-large size ranges.

2. Must-Do: Have a social media presence

In today’s digital age, promoting your Pilates classes online is essential. You can start a social media channel on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, or Youtube, for example. This is a great way to build a Pilates community and reach potential clients.

This is the place to share your expertise, post class schedules, and showcase your passion. Remember: Begin authentically you is the key to attracting potential students! Don’t fake it as it can be counterproductive in the long term.

3. Must-Have: Tips for muscle recovery

Let’s be honest, your students are likely to complain about muscle soreness after Pilates classes. So, if you want to keep them coming back for more and enjoy the lessons, you need to share some helpful tips to reduce sore muscles.

First of all, you may want to explain the importance of anti-inflammatory foods, such as cherry juice, ginger, or even pineapple. These can work wonders in treating muscle soreness, and they can often be healthier than anti-inflammatory drugs.

Another great food tip is to go for antioxidant supplements, including fish oil, to reduce the pain, and milk protein.

4. Must-Do: Purchase yoga mats

You need to consider that you may welcome many students who are unprepared for Pilates classes. Newcomers may not know what to expect, and they may not have the suitable gear. So, it is a good idea to prepare yoga mats for them. This is a small investment, but one that can make everyone feel welcome.

5. Must-have: Partnerships and sponsoring

Collaborating with relevant businesses can add significant value to your Pilates business. You can, for example, establish partnerships with companies that offer Pilates outfits, nutritional supplements, or even journaling kits. Journaling is a popular tool for meditation and stress relief, which makes it a great side hobby to manage next to Pilates.

This can help you share exclusive discounts or offers with your students!

Can you turn your passion into a Pilates business? Hell yes, you can. This will not be without challenges, but hopefully, these few tips can help you create an environment that works for your students and business growth!
