Remembering Rick Springfield
Most of you reading this are probably alot like me in the fact that you first fell head over heals in love with Rick Springfield in the early 80’s. This is when I remember this Australian Heartthrob almost bursting out of nowhere and landing in my lap.
1981 was the year, and being a young age of 10 I had my first crush! Watching Rick on the hit soap opera General Hospital and buying his Album Working Class Dog only to fall in love with every song on it. Oh the memories!
Rick Springfield won the 1981 Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance and it was so well deserved! The talent oozed from this man! There is so much about him but instead of going into all of it you can learn more on Rick Springfield Wiki.
My First Rick Springfield Concert
All my years of going to concerts the one rocker I never got to see was Rick Springfield. I just never was either where he was playing, or had time off work, or was financially able to attend a show. I’ve dreamed so many times about meeting this man, but just haven’t had the chance.
So far to date, I have seen him in concert 2 times. Once at a local casino in 2014 where a friend and I attended and I was standing right against the stage, underneath Rick. His sweat was literally dripping on me, and I was holding onto his left leg for almost a whole song.
Rick came off the stage and walked thru the crowd while girls were grabbing and pulling and crying, then he came right next to me and got back on stage.
Here is a great picture of a shirtless Rick, while very fuzzy due to lighting and my bad camera, it is still a great pic of this heartthrob! How many rockers in their late 60’s can pull off a shirtless look. This man is the same age as my Dad and I am still in lust over him. Yikes! haha!
This show was amazing, electrifying, energetic, loud, and right up there with one of the best performances I had seen. All my dreaming of seeing Rick in concert were finally coming true. How I would have loved to meet him but that just didn’t happen.
Seeing Rick in Concert Again
Luckily not long after my first concert, Rick Springfield played locally and my husband and I took his Mom to the show. It was an outdoor show and Rick was headliner. We were in the crowd, but not up close.
What an amazing and high energy show he put on. And again, he came off stage and pushed thru the crowd while women of all ages grabbed and clawed and cried. It was awesome!! He came right by me and smiled that smile of his, and I again felt like a teenage girl!
It’s so hard to get good pictures at a concert. The lighting, the action, the people, it’s a pain. But this was a neat shot as he was coming thru the crowd towards me. It’s a picture in a picture.
Again, I wasn’t able to have my teenage dreams come true by meeting Rick, but one of my best friends did. We hung around after the show and she luckily had a gal she knew give her a backstage pass, and she got this great picture with Rick. Very jealous girl I was! (still am..haha)
Rick TidBits
About 6 years ago or so there was a site I came upon called If Only. It was based on an idea that If you dreamed it, It could happen. I put in my request to meet Rick if ever he was in my area. Well, he was in Minnesota for a show about 3 hours from me and a rep reached out to me about my request.
I didn’t have enough money to meet Rick, and that was very sad. The site was fresh at that time and if I remember correctly, they wanted over $500 for me to meet him at his hotel, for pictures. Not sure who got the money, but regardless it was out of my budget.
If the world ever opens up again where artists can do shows and do meet n greets and if Rick is ever in my area I will not miss my chance to meet him again!
There was also some stuff going on, on his Facebook page where you could submit a story of why you should be picked to have a Zoom style meet up with Rick and a handful of other winners. I submitted my story, never got picked. Another sad day for me!
