Welcome, dear readers, to the enchanting land of Oz, where dreams come true and adventures never end! Today, join me on a delightful journey to the Oz Museum in the heart of Wamego, Kansas, a place where the magic of the beloved movie “The Wizard of Oz” comes to life.
My love of the Wizard of Oz came from my Mother’s love of the movie. Even though my Mom was born in 1953, she was a huge fan of the movie as a kid and that carried into her adult life. There was even a room in my parents house (my sisters old bedroom) that was turned into a shrine for the Wizard of Oz. Dolls, trinkets, blankets, hand painted plates and so much more.
I guess one could say I didn’t have a choice but to fall in love with the movie. However, I did and I choose to love it all on my own. Our first year of winter travels took us thru Kansas and we decided to take a slight detour just to tour the Oz Museum. So glad we did.

The Making of The Wizard of Oz: A Timeless Classic
Let’s step back in time to the mesmerizing era of 1939, when “The Wizard of Oz” graced the silver screen. This cinematic masterpiece, based on L. Frank Baum’s novel, captured the hearts of audiences worldwide. As the cameras rolled, a young and talented Judy Garland stepped into the iconic ruby slippers of Dorothy Gale, a spirited girl from Kansas, embarking on an unforgettable journey in the Land of Oz.
Watching the movie as a young girl I could relate to Dorothy as I am sure most young girls could.
Meet the Memorable Characters
Dorothy and Toto: Dorothy, our courageous protagonist, represents the essence of innocence and bravery. Her loyal companion, Toto, adds a touch of canine charm to the story, reminding us of the importance of friendship and loyalty.
The Wicked Witch of the West: Ah, the infamous Wicked Witch, a character so delightfully wicked that she sent shivers down our spines. With her cackling laughter and green complexion, she embodied the perfect villain, making Dorothy’s adventure all the more thrilling.
The Good Witch Glinda: In contrast, we have the enchanting Good Witch Glinda, whose kindness and wisdom guided Dorothy on her quest. Glinda showcased the power of goodness, teaching us that compassion and grace can overcome even the darkest of forces.
The Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion: Who could forget Dorothy’s companions: the Scarecrow longing for a brain, the Tin Man in search of a heart, and the Cowardly Lion seeking courage? Each character symbolizes qualities we often underestimate within ourselves, reminding us that we possess hidden strengths waiting to be discovered.
