Graceland is the timeless icon of Rock’n’Roll. Elvis Presley’s Graceland is a must see for all Elvis fans and non Elvis fans. Why do I say that? Well, I wasn’t really an Elvis fan growing up. I knew of some of his music but just wasn’t a huge follower or fan. It wasn’t until my first visit there that I became a fan and now I just feel the need to learn all there is about Elvis and his life.

Unveiling Elvis: The Man and the Legend
Graceland stands tall as a timeless emblem of rock’n’roll lore. Nestled in the heart of Tennessee, this estate invites visitors to delve into the realm of Elvis Presley, the King of Rock’n’Roll. His journey began humbly in Tupelo, Mississippi, in 1935, within a modest family setting. However, destiny guided Elvis to Memphis, Tennessee, seeking stability and a brighter horizon. In 1953, armed with determination, Elvis recorded his initial demo using personal funds. RCA Records recognized his talent, signing him in 1955. With the success came a mansion in 1957, Graceland, etching its place in the annals of rock’n’roll history.
Lodging Fit for a King: The Guest House at Graceland
The Guest House at Graceland, inaugurated in 2016, stands as a luxurious 450-room resort adjacent to the estate. Infused with Elvis-inspired motifs, the hotel exudes elegance without straying into gaudiness. It encapsulates the essence of the King’s persona, from heart-shaped fire pits named Hunka Burning Love to lobby chairs mirroring Elvis’ iconic capes. Guests can savor the famous peanut butter and banana sandwiches, a nightly homage to Elvis’ palate, and indulge in live music—an ode to the true Elvis aficionado.
This staircase in the hotel is made to look like the main staircase in the mansion.

Timing Your Trip: When to Visit Graceland
Graceland boasts two peak periods—Elvis Week in early to mid-August and Presley’s birthday week in January. Expect crowds and plan ahead for these events.
I’ve been to Graceland 3 times now, and will say it’s best to go early in the day. There is a lot to see and as the day goes on the tour and museum fill up.

Explore other iconic spots in Memphis, such as Sun Records, where Elvis recorded his first demo, Heartbreak Hotel near Graceland, and the Memphis Rock’N’Roll Soul Museum on Beale Street.

Hi, my Sister paid for my bucket list trip, first class flight, and hotel accommodations at Guesthouse At Graceland Hotel, May 16 — 19, I grew up as a kid with a huge crush on Elvis. I’ve loved him from that day to this day. I’m African Anerican, proud to educate friends and family about Elvis’s life, music, and humanity work. This will be a trip I’ve longed for, I can’t stop smiling knowing I’m fulfilling my #1 bucket list, coming to Graceland, and Memphis.
Sheila says
Oh Karen, I know you will love it!! Elvis wasn’t only an icon, he was a human with a heart and soul that reached so many. His house literally gives me feelings I get nowhere else, and the museum is something you need to have many hours to explore.
Growing up I wasn’t an Elvis fan, as my parents really weren’t. Not sure why. But, later in my life I found a love for him and his life and music and now I’m obsessed!! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts. Please do come back and tell me here.
Sheila

I feel the same way about Elvis! My parents knew that I was a big fan! I was maybe 10 or 11 years old at the time. Still love and remember him and feeling sad that his only child has also passed!. I’m in my 70’s now!
Sheila says
Yes, it’s sad about Lisa Marie. I really hope his grandkids will keep up with his legacy.
FL Marshall,Jr. says
I visited Graceland the year or so after he passed. I was 13 or 14 years old. I took my son and uncle back in the early 2000’s. I would like to go back to see what all goes on today and stay in the new hotel. I didn’t visit Sun Records either.
Sheila says
Oh, Sun Records is a must 🙂 And, I say go back often to Graceland as they change stuff in the museum often.
Thanks for visiting my blog. 🙂

My son and daughter in law took me to Graceland November 19 22nd 2023. I have been an Elvis fan since I was 11 years old and I am 70 years of age now. They took me for my birthday. I do want to go back to Graceland again. I was too busy taking pictures that I don’t feel I got to see everything I should have. I want to see more.
Sheila says
That is so awesome that they took you. I’ve been 3 times now, and feel I need to go more to fully see every single thing. It is a lot to take in, in one visit.
Frank says
Omg you told my story my son and Daughter in law took me for my Birthday In August 2023 I’m 64 and a elvis fan since 11 …just blew my mind reading your story.
Long live The KING!!!
Sheila says
That is awesome that your kids took you to Graceland. It is a must in my book. Long live the KING!!
Dolly says
My husband and I went a few years ago. Plus 20 years ago we took our son when he was a fan. We liked it much better 20 years ago. Definitely not a fan of the shopping mall feel that there since they changed the parking lot where the planes are. So we won’t be going back.
Sheila says
I totally understand the frustration of feeling like it’s a shopping mall. That is how most tourist attractions are now days. If you’ve ever been to Disney or Universal you would know how crazy it is. After every ride, you exit thru a gift shop.
Barbara Goodman says
Been twice..once when my X was a Army Recruiter stationed there and our son was in 3d grade and then again when son was in Navy training there.
Worked with a lady that went to school with Elvis. She said other students thought he was kind of strange. I felt like people in the area resented his presence to a certain extent not realizing he put MEMPHIS on the map.
Sheila says
I’ve heard before that as a child he was considered odd and a mama’s boy. Nothing wrong with that.
Angie says
I have loved Elvis since I was a kid and still love him. Regret that I didn’t get a chance to see him! He was and still is my favorite of all time. Sorry that his only child is now gone too!
